When 15K became normal

Today, I was supposed to be in Goa doing my first Ironman.

Around this time last year, I decided I would do it in 2026. I was excited enough to start doing a couple of brick sessions. After the Dubai half marathon earlier this year, I realised how much more preparation it would take than I was putting in.

Today, I’m still working towards that goal. But I don’t regret where I am.

This morning was my second consecutive Sunday running 15K nonstop. There was a time when I struggled to run even 2K without stopping. Now I wake up on a Sunday and go for a run. It has become a normal part of my life.

That’s what makes me happy.

Every month, I’m getting a little faster. Consistent running has helped, but so has paying attention. After each run, I spend some time understanding how it went. Did I start too fast? Did I fuel properly? How did I feel towards the end? What could I do better next time?

I’m learning as I go, making small changes, and coming back for the next run.

Some days go well. Some don’t. There are short sessions, missed sessions, and mornings when getting out the door takes effort. Over time, though, the routine has become easier to return to.

Consistency has helped me build discipline. Running needs less convincing now. It has become something I make time for, even when there isn’t a race around the corner.

The Times Half Marathon in December is my next target. Ironman is still ahead, and I have more work to do before I get there.

For now, I’m happy that something I once struggled with has become a habit. That feels like progress I can keep building on.
